The classic 16-bit RPG finally makes its way to the West after decades
Terranigma is one of those games that we saw in Nintendo Power, downloaded a ROM of, and played for an hour or so because we had issues with our Packard Bell. It was a legendary game published by Enix (before it became Square Enix) everywhere except for here, the US of A. We were stuck without it for whatever reason, likely because the N64 was nearly out and the Virtual Boy wasn’t living up to the hype.
Lost to time, the folks at Clear River Games have managed to secure the license to bring it back into public view, announcing the at the Pixel Arcadia showcase that the game will make its glorious return.
Originally developed by Quintet, the Action RPG follows in the footsteps of its fellow games like Soul Blazer and Illusion of Gaia, but many considered it the peak of the “trilogy.”

This new release is aiming to be a cleaned up version of the original with some Quality of Life tweaks, updated visuals and some new to-bo-announced features. It’ll finally hit our consoles here when it launches in early 2027 for Switch, PlayStation, Xbox and PC.
