StarCraft is coming back — but not as an RTS

There’s a new StarCraft game on the way, and boy does that trailer look SICK.

At BlizzCon today we finally got word on a new StarCraft game on the way, and the trailer that Blizzard revealed was certainly one that made our eyes flip out.

But wait, there are a few caveats!

For one, the game’s not releasing until 2030, so we have a long way to go to forget about it and then suddenly remember it, and then hope that those of us StarCraft fans are still alive for it.

Second, the game isn’t an RTS. Sure, there has been a StarCraft shooter rumored for a while. Once known as StarCraft Ghost, the game disappeared years ago, taking with it our hopes for a neat spin-off. And like how World of WarCraft took over from WarCraft, this next StarCraft game seems to be doing the same. Am I sad to see the next true “craft” game not happen (yet)? Yes.

But at least it’s thematically very cool, and the video teaser absolutely rips and — wait, I don’t need vanilla StarCraft, I’m fine with this. Let’s go!

Or rather, let’s wait. Until 2030. Maybe.
