Nick Arcade was the game show we always wanted to be on
As a young teen in the 90s, being on a video game-based game show was something that we put onto a bucket list of experiences. At the top of that list was probably Nick Arcade. Airing during the prime period of Nickelodeon’s existence, we would think that we were better gamers than anyone we saw on it. The show itself was a fun idea. It was part board game, as teams navigated the show’s (honestly kind of boring) mascot Mikey around a board, and part speed run arcade. Players would pick a game to play, try to hit a goal, and then be awarded points. There were even some trivia questions thrown in for variety.
The show was actually great at giving airtime to many games that people didn’t know about or engage with, and having them shoved into an arcade cabinet is a fun idea.

Nick Arcade aired from January to November in 1992, and ran through reruns into the late 90s. With all of the nostalgia flaring back up for the era, perhaps it’s not a bad time to bring the show back. Maybe!
